A CHALLENGE STORY SWAP usually means inventing a story on the spot, often triggered by choosing from an assortment of objects. Today, we will be having a Christmas Ornament Challenge Story Swap. We are not swapping ornaments, just stories. You are invited to choose an ornament (or more than one) from the tree. Do you like inventing stories on the spot? Come up with a story that you in some way link to the ornament. These stories need not be on a holiday theme. Not so comfortable with improvisational telling? You can share a story you already know (folktale, literary, historical, family, or personal) as long as you can find an ornament to relate it to. You don’t think you are a storyteller? Find an ornament that in some way triggers your own memories about some event in your life and share it with us. Do you like telling holiday stories? Find an ornament and tell us a story linked to the season: Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, or any kind of winter story.

The Christmas ornament challenge swap is a tradition Vicky started with her storytelling swap group in Hawaii. Now that she has retired to Sandwich, NH, this is the second year she is bringing the tradition to Sandwich-area storytellers and story listeners.

No one is required to tell a story, although everyone is encouraged to tell. Listeners are welcome. Most stories should be from about 5 minutes to 15 minutes long, to give everyone who wants to participate a chance to tell.
