Rudyard Kipling – “a magician of words.” Jackson Gillman – “ the Stand-up Chameleon.” Put them together and you’ll see why Kipling’s timeless classics have been adored by many generations worldwide.
Rudyard Kipling was the most internationally celebrated author of his day. The first 4 years of his marriage and fatherhood were spent in Dummerston Vermont where he built his dream house, now preserved as a historical landmark. These were very productive, happy, and deeply troubled years for the young literary giant. He was a guarded, private individual but this presentation will provide an inside look at his experience in Vermont and some of the controversy surrounding this complex man. The program will be framed by reincarnations of Kipling himself and also include a selection of poems and stories performed “Just So.”
Jackson Gillman has been portraying Rudyard-in-Residence at Kipling’s historic Vermont home annually since 2000 and audiences have included historical societies and other adult groups. Rudyard Kipling Revisited has been on the roster of the NH Humanities to Go Speakers Bureau since 2015. His presentations have received rave evaluations from the New England Library Association, NH Humanities to Go Speaskers Bureau, the Kipling Society, and many other groups. It was presented Off-Broadway at the 2014 United Solo Theater Festival and received the Most Educational Award of 130 shows from around the world.
