Doria Hughes:
How can you be your own aunt? You can, if your name is Antigone. Join Doria Hughes for an artful and art-filled telling of the ancient but highly relevant story of Antigone, sister-daughter of Oedipus. Doria’s telling draws from her late grandmother Rosemarie Beck’s gorgeous painterly interpretation of this Greek tragedy, which will be incorporated into this visual storytelling presentation. Inspired by the retrospective show “Myths Retold: Paintings by Rosemarie Beck” held at the University of New Hampshire, Durham in 2023, Doria’s Story Space program will include co-tellings of several noteworthy narratives, narrated by Doria and paired with Rosemarie Beck's extraordinary artworks. For those of you who know Doria and have seen her perform, if you ever wondered about her Storytelling roots and her flair for the dramatic this presentation will answer many of your questions

Based in Cambridge, Mass., Doria Hughes is a folklorist, professional storyteller, and narrator. She performs traditional stories from around the world in classrooms, bookstores, festivals, libraries, museums, parks, schools, water treatment facilities, and private functions!
