Storyteller Andy Davis will talk about the role oral folklore has played in traditional societies in inculcating the value of a sustainable relationship to the natural world, drawing on “hidden folk” stories from Iceland as one example. He will ask participants how the stories we tell (or write, or read) about where we live encourage a relationship with the land. Davis will frame and facilitate a discussion, starting with some short examples from different cultures, and relevant traditional tales.
This event is part of One Book One Valley and New Hampshire’s BIG READ featuring The Bear. This event is supported by a grant from New Hampshire Humanities
