Rudyard Kipling – “a magician of words.” Jackson Gillman – “the Stand-up Chameleon”. Put them together and you’ll see why Kipling’s fanciful “Just So Stories” have been adored by many generations worldwide. Jackson has been making these literary gems sparkle for 35 years. Since 2000, Jackson has been portraying Rudyard-in-Residence at Kipling’s historic Brattleboro VT home for a week every spring, performing for school groups, colleges, historical societies and other adult groups. While these stories are typically considered family fare, it is the adults who relish the sophisticated humor and wordplay that is sprinkled throughout. And all ages enjoy the playful animated characterizations.
Jackson presented The Magic of Rudyard Kipling: “Just So” Off-Broadway as part of 2014 United Solo Theatre Festival. Of the 130 shows from around the world, it received the Best Educational Show award. He frames the program as Rudyard Kipling, but tells the stories as himself with lots of physicality and interaction.
