Several years ago I inherited my father’s World War II Army footlocker. It turned out to contain hundreds of letters and other documents, almost all from my father’s time in the Army during the war and his time working with refugees after the war. From a few of these letters I have created a story focused on his time in the front lines of the European Theater in 1944-45. It portrays a young man dealing with everything from raw fear to his role as a leader to his exposure to a world both wider and more brutal than he had known.

“A powerful story, an empathic point of view—I really appreciated that it informed me of military operations realistically and accepted (did not deny or dramatize) the human fear, neither did it preach a specific point of view … its honest perspective helps me have a broader understanding of what a person who does military service goes through … your story brings out that need in a loving and human way … – A listener from Fairfield, CT

“I think folks LOVED the presentation. It’s captivating, but you let the words and story work their magic…. Your presentation didn’t feel the need to ENTERTAIN US…, but allowed us to travel to France through the written word and the storytelling inherent in the language of the letters. Several folks gave me the thumbs up for the program and said how much they enjoyed themselves. …I thought the questions and your responses greatly enhanced the audiences connection with you.” -David Rau, Director of Education and Outreach, Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme, CT
