Event Description: Maine storyteller, Jude Lamb, portrays her great-great-great-great-grandmother, Eunice Lakeman Hoar, to tell a family story of settling in the mountains of Maine. The family of Luther and Eunice Lakeman Hoar were the first white family to settle on what is now Rangeley Lake in 1817.
The story was traditionally told from the male point of view with Luther as the heroic pioneer. Jude's investigation begs the question of how the story might differ if told from the eyes of a woman. Luther could not have taken nine children, including a baby and toddlers, without the help, direction and partnership of a strong woman. Eunice, given voice, tells of the family's dramatic twenty mile walk over late spring snow from the Avon, Maine area to Rangeley Lake. Not only did they travel over snow, but climbed as much as 1000 feet in elevation rise!
Eunice engages us from the onset with her wry humor and tells an entertaining, enlightening story...a genuine Maine adventure! Join us to discover,"will the baby be eaten by wolves?!"

This storytelling event is free and open to the public with suggested ages 12 and up
