CAROL BIRCH presents "Thank God for PBS!"

50 years ago, Carol Birch traveled on an NEH grant to develop a storytelling program. Her stop in New Orleans opened her eyes...on so many levels. All these years later, the story of that day - and night - has morphed from shock to laugher.

About Carol:

Carol Birch, a premier Connecticut storyteller, received the National Storytelling Network’s Circle of Excellence Oracle Award. In her sure voice, literature’s delectable appeal becomes as appropriately conversational - and as intimate - as her personal stories. Her style revitalizes language; her art is an absence of artifice; and her stories offer memories worth keeping in our restless world. Featured nine times at the National Storytelling Festival in Tennessee, Birch has appeared on more than a hundred festival stages around the world, and lectured at more than fifty universities. Her books WHO SAYS? and THE WHOLE STORY HANDBOOK, as well as eight of her recordings, have earned multiple awards.  She’s received two grants from National Endowment for the Humanities; traveled on invitational performances in Australia, Europe, and Singapore; and led five storytelling tours through Ireland, Scotland, and England. Media appearances include ABC's Nightline, CBS' Morning Show, and National Public Radio. “[Her] voice is a magnet for ears and the tales she tells make the heart beat with a little more confidence … a warm and enchanting style.” – NUVO Weekly.
