a morning of amazing storytellers from the British Isles:

Liz Weir, Taffy Thomas, Mara Menzies, and Carl Gough

British storyteller, Simon Brooks was raised on stories and taken to the places where these stories began. Ancient hills, standing stones, and castles were Simon’s upbringing. As an acclaimed storyteller Simon Brooks has engaged and transfixed with his powerful performances all over New England. As a master storyteller, Simon has taught and performed at libraries, schools, collages, festivals, camps and at museums! With his bodhrán and tales, Simon combines the intensity of a solo performance with the intimacy of a face-to-face conversation whether on CD or live. Simon has also recorded over 7 audio books and  4 storytelling CDs, including, Parent's Choice winner, “A Tangle of Tales.”

Liz Weir  is a storyteller from Northern Ireland who has told her  tales on five continents. Formerly Children's Librarian for the city of  Belfast  she is the author of two story collections for young  people Book Chicka Boom and Here, There and Everywhere. Her picture book When Dad Was Away deals with the subject of imprisonment, explaining it from a  child's viewpoint. She likes nothing better than to tell stories to children of all ages and their families.

Taffy Thomas founded the legendary 1970s folk theatre company Magic Lantern, using shadow puppets and storytelling to illustrate folk tales. After surviving a major stroke in 1985 he used oral storytelling as speech therapy, which led him to find a new career working as a storyteller. Taffy was awarded an MBE  and in January 2010 was appointed the first UK Storyteller Laureate at the British Library. He has received numerous awards and is highly respected, and continues to tell stories and lead workshops, passing on both his skills and his extensive repertoire.

Mara Menzies is a performance storyteller, drawing on her rich, dual Kenyan/Scottish cultural heritage to tell stories that make your head spin or if you're really lucky, your eyes may pop out of your head with excitement. Get ready for a rip-roaring ride with unforgettable characters, plenty of interaction and huge amounts of fun! All you need is your imagination!

Carl Gough lives in Wales, the land of dragons and castles, where misty mountains peer down into lush green valleys. Carl’s stories draw deeply of the wonderous, magical, thrilling, world of Welsh myth, legend, folktales and fairy tales. Carl will lead you to the world you only glimpse in the corner of your eye. Carl’s began storytelling in 1989 within environmental education, before discovering its wider applications. Performing across the UK and with a recent tour completed in Asia, Carl loves bringing people together with the power of story.
