SUNDAY NIGHT STORYTELLING FOR ADULTS

A Wonderful Night

On Sunday, November 15 from 7:30-9:00pm, storyteller, Bruce Marcus, emcees a night

of star storytellers from across the country and beyond:

Regie Gibson, Maria Gillen, Anne Glover, Donna Washington, and Joel Ying

Bruce Marcus has been regaling audiences throughout New England and beyond for three decades with his fresh-as-mint, original true-life and made-up stories.  Equally comfortable in rhyme and out, he is a story slam winner and seasoned emcee. Bruce has been featured in many spoken word, coffeehouse, cable TV and other performing arts series, as well as at a number of festivals and on PBS World Channel’s Stories from the Stage. Called “My son!” by late storytelling legend Brother Blue – loudly, publicly, emphatically and often – Bruce serves as a feature coordinator and frequent host for the weekly Boston area storytelling series started in 1992 by Brother Blue and his wife Ruth Edmonds Hill, now known as The Story Space.

Regie Gibson has performed in the U.S., Europe & Cuba. In Italy, representing the U.S., Regie competed for & received the Absolute Poetry Award & The Europa in Versi Award. He’s received the Walker Scholarship from Provincetown’s Fine Arts Work Center, a Brother Thomas Fellowship & two Live Arts Boston Grants for his play The Juke: A Blues Bacchae. He is creator of The Shakespeare Time-Traveling Speakeasy— a multimedia performance focusing on the influence of William Shakespeare.

Maria Gillen is a biodynamic therapist who explores story as a means of healing and developing self-resilience and has delivered workshops throughout Europe. Maria is also a two-time winner of the Mick McCarthy All Ireland Storytelling Competition and was a featured teller two times at the Cape Clear Storytelling Festival.

Anne Glover is a Canadian award-winning performer whose stories often include string figures. She’s toured Canada, the US, Romania, Ireland, Taiwan, Chile, Argentina and Japan, for as many as 45,000 people in a year.  Although she’d rather take people off screens, Anne is pleased to be able to reach audiences online.

Donna Washington is an internationally known master storyteller, artist educator, and published author. She is renown for her storytelling for both children & adults from poignant & funny fables about the human condition to racy relationships stories to spine tingling tales of terror. Donna has been featured worldwide at festivals, schools & libraries, theaters and other venues from Canada to Hong Kong. Her eleven storytelling CDs have garnered twenty-eight national awards.  She is also the author of four children’s books: Li’l Rabbit’s Kwanzaa, A Pride of African Tales, The Story of Kwanzaa, and A Big Spooky House. Her fifth, Boo Stew will be out in spring of 2021. When not traveling the world, she lives with her husband and two cats in Durham, NC.

Dr. Joel Ying is a Physician-Storyteller in Naples, Florida.  Stories, he will tell you, are medicine. You might get a dose in performance (or in his office) filled with sweet personal moments, salty humor, sour sadness, spicy folk tales or even bitter truth. It goes down with ease when it comes with a story.
