On May 10, Expresso Yourself Coffeehouse is excited to be part of Medfield’s Third Annual Climate Week.

The line up for the evening on May 10th includes many well-known Boston poets, including Linda Carney-Goodrich whose work has been displayed on the walls at Boston City Hall as part of the annual Boston Mayor’s Poetry Program. She is the Poetry Coordinator for the Menino Art Center in Hyde Park.

Also, Toni Bee who was elected Poet Populist of Cambridge and was Cambridge’s inaugural Poetry Ambassador and was on the advisory board of the New England Poetry Club. She has featured at the Lizard Lounge and the Cantab poetry slams.

Amy Alvarez, one of 2022’s Best New Poets, has had her work published in Ploughshares, The Missouri Review, Poetry Foundation, and elsewhere. She currently teaches at Boston College.

Other poets will include Marilyn Goodrich, musician Planet Zuzu, Joe Webster, and others.

Competitive poetry adds a whole special energy. You might call this more of a call and response. The poets will explore everything from nature poems to climate activism to environmental justice.

Funds will be raised for the Boston chapter of the Sunrise Movement – a movement of young people fighting to stop the climate crisis as they build a base that crosses class and race. They work towards forcing government to end the era of fossil fuel elites and to invest in working class communities. Their work has led to historic youth turnout for elections and they have forced climate into every electoral conversation.

Pastries, coffee, and tea will be served. Doors open at Expresso Yourself at 7:00pm at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church at 26 North Street, Medfield, MA. Open mic performers have 3 minutes to share. Original or non-original poetry, stories, performance art, music or songs welcome. Sticking to theme of Environmental Justice is encouraged. Teens and adults welcome. We are a safe space for all. Tickets at the door are $15. Discounted tickets are available at https://bit.ly/4d04RLJ
