Food and Freedom: Passover in Stories
Artists Standing Strong Together presents a virtual storytelling program
On April 1, 2021 at 6:30pm ET, Artists Standing Strong Together hosts a live virtual storytelling event: Food and Freedom: Passover in Stories. While the stories evoke Jewish traditions, the themes of food and freedom are universal, and this will be a delightfully engaging evening of entertainment and education for audiences of all backgrounds and ages. Food and Freedom: Passover in Stories features storytellers Cindy Rivka Marshall, Mark Binder, Dr. Harriette Wimms, Muriel Horowitz, Rahel Musleah and emcee Bruce Marcus. This family-friendly feast of stories will be live on zoom. Admission is free. Donations will be accepted during the program to support the artists.

Food and Freedom: Passover in Stories will be repeated via YouTube recording at 9:30pm ET/6:30 pm PT.
Cindy Rivka Marshall is an award-winning storyteller with her own versions of folktales, biblical and personal stories up her sleeve. Through her business, “Story Arc” she aims to “Reach, Teach and Change with Stories,” offering workshops, story coaching and intergenerational experiences to build diversity awareness and community connections.
Mark Binder will portray Izzy Abrahmson, who will share his original stories of food and fools. Binder, the author of more than two dozen books and an Audie Award Nominated recording artist, has entertained listeners around the world, and many times Abrahmson has joined him.
Dr. Harriette E. Wimms is a rising Kohenet within the Kohenet Hebrew Priestess Institute. She is a board member of Hinenu: Baltimore Justice Shtiebl, the creator of the Baltimore Jews of Color Community Havruta, and the driving force behind the JOC Mishpacha Project. Dr. Wimms is a Maryland licensed clinical psychologist and professor at Loyola University Maryland.
Muriel Horowitz loves telling traditional and historical tales from her Jewish tradition and from around the world. She especially loves inspiring others to tell their own. “Passover has always been my favorite holiday. The Passover seder is about sharing stories one generation to the next so that we may remember- AND ACT.”
Rahel Musleah is an award-winning journalist, author, singer, storyteller and educator. Through the vivid prism of her family’s story, Rahel introduces audiences to the distinctive heritage of the Jews of India and Iraq. The seventh generation of a Calcutta family, she traces her roots to 17th-century Baghdad. She is a pioneer in the Sephardi/Mizrahi community as a woman prayer leader. Rahel leads Jewish heritage tours to India twice a year, in November and February, and would love for you to join her when we are back on the road!
Bruce Marcus has been regaling audiences throughout New England and beyond for over three decades with his fresh-as-mint, original true-life and made-up stories, poems and songs. He is an occasional story slam winner and playful, creative and seasoned emcee. Bruce has been featured on PBS World Channel’s Stories from the Stage, and is the feature coordinator for The Story Space.
