In difficult times we often call upon the warmth, light, and magic of fire to send out signals of reassurance, remembrance, solidarity, and calls to action. Whether in the warm welcome of a fireplace, the powerful aliveness of a bonfire, or the steady glow of candlelight, fire beckons us to take heart, take action, or simply come together to reflect on the heroic (often unrecognized) efforts of those who have gone before us carrying the hopes and dreams of a world safe and sane for all.

To honor this Memorial Day, let us come together around the warm glow of stories and explore signal fires that reaffirm community. Might signal fires today point us towards a better world?

OARS in the Water is a facilitated Zoom gathering that meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 pm Eastern Time. The Healing Story Alliance’s OARS in the Water offers a community listening space in which to share the experiences and stories that have emerged in turbulent times.

OARS co-hosts facilitate the evening and provide participants with a warm welcome and a meaningful theme which we hope will be healing, supportive and inspiring.

Format: A typical 90-minute meeting consists of a 20-minute, theme-based opening, followed by 20 minutes in breakout rooms, and then we reassemble for a whole group conversation.
