Is Winter Cold Starting to Get You Down? February is the perfect time for HOT SOUP . . . and SHARED STORIES!
Come to a STONE SOUP STORY SWAP on Sunday, February 24 from 2:00-7:00-ish pm at 12 Little Pond Road, Sandwich, NH, 03227. Do you remember the story of Stone Soup, where everyone throws something into the pot? When the soup is done, they can’t believe it was all made from a stone! I will have a large pot of turkey or chicken soup stock on the stove. Bring something to throw into the pot. I will provide the stone. While the soup is cooking, we will share stories.
Let me know if you are vegetarian and I can have two pots, one with a poultry stock, one with a vegetable stock. If you are on a restricted diet and can’t risk the surprises of a stone soup, bring some of a favorite soup that fits your own needs. In addition to something for the soup pot, you are welcome to bring an appetizer, beverage, good bread, side dish or dessert. Soup will be the main dish of the day, but a little something on the side won’t hurt. If we add items to the soup between 2:00 and 3:00, we should have time for at least a couple of hours of stories before the soup is done. We will probably eat about 5:00, depending on what people throw in the pot. If you are coming late, bring something that doesn’t take too long to cook.
As for the stories, you needn’t be a “professional storyteller” to come. Everyone is welcome to tell; no one is required to tell. Listeners are welcome! Most stories should be between five and fifteen minutes, to allow time for plenty of people to tell. Folktales, historical stories, personal anecdotes, tall tales, story songs – on a “stone soup” day, anything goes!
Companionship, food and stories are the best way to beat back the winter blues!
RSVPs encouraged, but not required. Call or email if you have questions. No need to tell me what you are bringing. I believe in the luck of the pot! Vicky Dworkin, 603-284-7376, vicky.dworkin@gmail.com.
12 Little Pond Road is the first house on the left, coming from Rte. 109, Wentworth Hill Road. GPS doesn’t stop at the right house.
