George “Rusty” Locke, an entertainment fixture in the Lakes Region for well over twenty years, appears at the Corner House Inn’s Storytelling Dinner Program on Thursday, Jan. 17th. Rusty plays several stringed instruments, including banjo, guitar and auto-harp and uses them to weave a spell over his audience as he spins yarns as varied as “Anansi” folk tales from west Africa to his own life experiences.

Rusty has a rich baritone voice which he uses to coax audiences to sing with him and he has a wry sense of humor that keeps them smiling. He is a gifted storyteller, a musician, an actor and writer, with many of his stories appearing in national magazines and books available on Amazon.

Born and raised in New Hampshire (with a short stop in Vermont), Rusty joined the Army after graduating from high school, where he began playing guitar while serving in Korea as a photographer and correspondent with “The Cavalier” and “Stars and Stripes” (Pacific Edition). After his tour of duty was over, Rusty returned to New England where he went to school briefly in Boston, and began a decades long career as a radio personality, disc-jockey, copy writer, reporter and color commentator for several local radio stations. Now retired, Rusty proudly boasts nine children and five grandchildren (and counting) and lives with his wife Rose in Meredith, NH.

Storytelling Dinners are held on Thursday evenings at the Corner House Inn in Center Sandwich, NH from late October through May.
