In 1970, I was a struggling teacher of troubled adolescents. I had given up connecting with them when one day, by accident, I found myself telling them a story. They responded! Ever since, I have pursued the power of storytelling.

Over the decades, I have coached hundreds of people on their storytelling, either in-person or via phone or Skype video. My coaching clients have come from many walks of life—including storytelling luminaries like Jay O’Callahan, Judith Black, Jim May, and Carmen Deedy. I have also coached numerous storytellers and others on their written and recorded projects.

A professional storyteller since 1976, I have performed twice as a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN, twice as Teller-In-Residence at the International Storytelling Center, and in countless festivals and concerts from Singapore and New Zealand, to Belgium and Austria—as well as in Canada and the U.S.

I am also the author of three books on storytelling (Improving Your Storytelling, The Storytelling Coach, and Storytelling Games), scores of published articles, and over 150 issues of my own email newsletters, including eTips from the Storytelling Coach and others.

A former teacher and mathematics major, I strive always to discover the most effective ways to lead clients and students to master the transformational power of storytelling. This search has led to projects such as a new paradigm for coaching storytellers, an articulation of the Natural Story Development Process, and exploration of the seldom-noticed Hidden Storytelling Skills.
