SHADOWS OF THE FAMILY TREE is an historically based, original storytelling program all about Ordinary People in Extraordinary Times and the Amazing Things That They Do. For the first time ever, over 100 years after her death, the story of the life of Dr. F. Rachel Harris Reid (1826 – 1903) can now be heard in a live storytelling concert or read in AUDACIOUS LEGACY. Sheila has researched and woven together the details of this remarkable woman’s life: one of the first 12 women doctors, a Civil War veteran, life-long advocate for blacks, independent wife of a Unitarian minister; Dr. Rachel demonstrates women’s courage in breaking societal barriers and taking risks. A workshop, CHASING SKELETONS, is designed for those who want to learn how to flesh out a skeleton story of one of their own ancestors.
