Sharing the Fire Story Slam

"Just Desserts"

Saturday, March 30,  9:15 - 11:00 PM @ Hotel 1620, Plymouth, MA

STF Folktale Storytelling Slam
Join the fun.  Saturday night, we will host a storytelling slam. Participants will compete for prizes and audience members will enjoy lively tales.

What is a story slam?

A story slam is a competition based on the art of storytelling. It encourages storytellers to focus on the craft of publicly performing. Every story must be less than 8 minutes long. It is short, snappy and lots of fun!

What is a theme ?

Story slams have themes and often focus on personal stories.  This year we will be looking for both personal stories and folktales.

The theme is "Just Desserts."  For "Just Desserts" develop a story about a character who receives a deserved punishment or reward. Pinocchio’s nose grew longer for telling so many lies is one folktale example.  Your shady deal landing you in front of the judge would be an example of a personal story.  Same theme, one slam, two types of genres (personal or folktale) - your choice.

How it works:

On the night of the slam anyone who wishes to participate can drop their name in a hat for a chance to compete.  Four tellers will be selected from the personal stories category and four tellers will be selected from the folktales category.  No notes, cheat sheets, props, or costumes. There is a panel of judges evaluating stories based on content, style of presentation and reflection of the theme. Keep in mind it is all in good fun!

Don’t want to tell?

No worries, you can sit back and watch the events unravel.  Listeners have an opportunity to participate in storytelling games and vote on an audience choice ballot.
