The Good Samaritan
Link to Event: https://www.simpletix.com/e/the-good-samaritan-tickets-139196 Event Website: https://www.simpletix.com/e/the-good-samaritan-tickets-139196 Event Contact Email: jimbrule@gmail.com Join Jim Brulé and Drew Willard and enter into dialogue about the Christian text of Luke chapter 10 verses 25-37, one of Jesus’ parables commonly referred to as “The Good Samaritan.” Drawing on the scholarship and insights of Professor Amy-Jill Levine, formerly head of New Testament Studies at Vanderbilt University, Drew, Jim, and each participant will contribute their own interpretation and reflections to this story. Together, we will seek to see what was said, how it was heard, how it was changed, and most importantly what it has to say to us now. As an ordained Christian minister and Biblical storyteller, Drew will provide examples of recognized translations of this text and context within the Gospel of Luke. Jim brings his experience as an ordained Jewish maggid (spiritual storyteller) and will relate elements of the story to traditional Jewish practice. Participants are encouraged to acquire Prof. Levine’s book, “Short Stories of Jesus,” although this is not a requirement of the workshop. In this highly accessible work, she attempts to clarify how the first-century CE Jewish community would have heard and understood this, and other, parables.

The natural world has many beings that bring us to a state of awe, or a scene of beauty that inspires us as it fills us with wonder, vitality, and joy. Let us explore together more consciously what awe does for our bodies, hearts, and souls, and how our stories of awe can touch others when we share what we have seen and felt. OARS in the Water is a facilitated Zoom gathering on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month offered by Healing Story Alliance to create a listening space to share the experiences and stories that have emerged through turbulent times. This is not a therapeutic circle but we do hope it will be healing, supportive and inspiring. Admission is free, although donations are deeply appreciated and help support our programming. Your tax deductible donation can be made here: https://square.link/u/d9xbGN2I We’ll gather via Zoom.
