• Co-working and parallel play for storytellers, writers, and everyone!

Link to Event: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/co-working-and-parallel-play-for-storytellers-writers-and-everyone-tickets-707854450717 It can be HARD to get stuff done on your own, at least it is for me. Everything becomes a distraction and the work won't fall into place. I'm hosting co-working/parallel play sessions, where we get together, state what we're working on, and then work with check-ins on the way. We'll meet on the first Wednesday evening and the fourth Saturday mid-day of most months. What can you do during this time? Anything. Write. Practice. Clean your room. Pay bills. For those who want it, I will provide a story/writing prompt, but you don't have to use it. Whatever you want to get done, if company would help then this is an easy way to get it. The task should be something you can do on your own. I'm looking forward to this and hope it helps us all get a little more done.

  • The Art and Craft of Deep Listening–a three-session online class

Link to Event: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-art-and-craft-of-deep-listeninga-three-session-online-class-tickets-714084625337 We live in a world that can be very noisy. It's rare that most of us feel like we are well listened to, and many of us aren't able to listen deeply or for long. When we can listen deeply, we build better relationships, learn more about each other, and sometimes find healing, art, and connection we didn't expect. This three-session class (admission is for all three sessions on Tuesday evenings) explores how to listen more deeply without interruption to ourselves and to others, and how to help others to become better listeners. We will also explore the ways that deep listening helps us thrive, and tools for when something unexpected happens, when there is conflicted listening, and how to be more comfortable as a listener. Who is this for? Anyone. Parents. Teachers. Artists. Friends. Human beings. This class is live on Zoom and will not be recorded for privacy reasons. Class dates are November 6, 13, and 20. Class time is from 7pmCT-8:30pm. If you cannot attend the second or third class please contact me. The first class is required. Laura Packer is a storyteller, coach, and communications consultant. She has seen listening change lives, lead to great art, and make a better world.

  • Sex and Death: The Folktale Edition, part two

Link to Event: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sex-and-death-the-folktale-edition-part-two-tickets-706836295387 People have been talking about sex and death since we could talk. Join award winning storyteller Laura Packer for an evening of traditional stories told live on Zoom, that are thought-provoking, racy, funny, poignant, and more. All topics are fair game. By purchasing this ticket you are confirming that you are over 18 years of age and will not share this broadcast with anyone outside of your household or anyone under 18 years of age. FAQ: My kid is 17. Please may they join us? I'm afraid not. While I believe teens need great sex ed, I need to protect myself legally, especially these days. No one under 18 is allowed. Is it okay if my partner and I... you know? Please be dressed at the beginning so I can confirm your age, then turn your camera and sound off. What we don't know won't hurt us. How explicit are the stories? Not very. These are folktales. Most do no more than state what's happening. It's not a sexy show. The death stories are also pretty straightforward. I get the sex part but death? Really? Really! There are some amazing stories about death. Why is the show on Sunday afternoon? Shouldn't stories like these be told in the dark? I wanted people in Europe to be able to join if they so choose. Will you record it and make the recording available? I'm planning to, but eventbrite makes it imporssible to sell tickets for something after the event ends. Keep an eye out for a separate announcement. Come to the live online show if you can, it will be more fun. Where can I find out more about you? I'm glad you asked. laurapacker.com. Laura Packer has been obsessed by stories, sex, and death her whole life. Her stories dive into the truth of human experience with humor, courage, and clear-eyed vision. Neighbors fought and fled the fire, then returned, determined to rebuild their community. Drawing on interviews with townspeople, letters, photographs, and newspaper reports, storyteller and folklorist Jo Radner tells an epic story of terror, courage, generosity, and hope. Join us for an extraordinary evening of storytelling to benefit those impacted by the fires on Maui! All proceeds from this concert will go to the Hawaii Community Foundation - MAUI STRONG. The Maui Strong Fund is providing financial resources that can be deployed quickly, with a focus on rapid response and recovery for the devastating wildfires on Maui. HCF will not be collecting a fee for donations to the Maui Strong Fund; 100 percent of the funds will be distributed for community needs. About Jo Radner, Storytelling Artist and Folklorist Jo Radner has been studying, teaching, telling, and collecting stories most of her life, and has performed from Maine to Hawaii to Finland. She is past president of the American Folklore Society and the National Storytelling Network. After 31 years’ teaching at American University, Jo moved back to her home region of western Maine as a freelance storyteller, writer, and oral historian. Her new book, Wit and Wisdom: The Forgotten Literary Life of New England Villages, was published in June 2023. Committed to strengthening communities by helping them find, shape, and present their stories, Jo conducts oral history projects and workshops for organizations, families, and individuals. To develop “Burnt into Memory,” she spent a year interviewing people who lived through the terrible wildfire that destroyed the western Maine town of Brownfield in 1947. She created this story to honor and celebrate those who fought and fled the fire seventy-six years ago. In this program, she will tell it as a tribute and fundraiser for the people of Maui who suffered this summer’s terrible wildfire.
