OARS in the Water: Honoring Ancestors
OARS in the Water October 26th 7:00pm-8:30pm EDT Hosted by Mike Seliger; Regina Ress Theme: Honoring Ancestors We gather at this time of year when the veil between the worlds is thinnest, and the opportunity to connect with ancestors is greatest. Ancestors could be human or not, might be a relative or a legend, a teacher or tree, animal or anima, present or a memory. Who or what might you wish to honor and to share in story? OARS in the Water is a facilitated Zoom gathering on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month offered by Healing Story Alliance to create a listening space to share the experiences and stories that have emerged through turbulent times. This is not a therapeutic circle but we do hope it will be healing, supportive and inspiring. Admission is free, although donations are deeply appreciated and help support our programming. Your tax deductible donation can be made here: https://square.link/u/d9xbGN2I We’ll gather via Zoom. Dinner & Dialogues – Using Food and Storytelling to Connect, Build Trust and Strengthen Community” with Ellen Cosgrove
Link to Event: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81884125778?pwd=cXdVV0hLWUt4dms2Tmx5T0E5RFowdz09 Event Phone: 9143101638 Event Contact Email: jryan@jryanpartners.com Dinner & Dialogue: Using Food and Storytelling to Connect, Build Trust, and Strengthen Community At a time when our world feels very divided, it is important to remember that storytelling can play a part in bringing us back together again. Join us to learn about how the power of food and storytelling can help build social bonds, empathy, and community. We will hear Ellen’s story, learn about her work and to take part in a short demo of her model. Please join this call with a snack, beverage, or meal and story of a food that represents an aspect of your identity. We look forward to seeing you all around this virtual table! Bio Ellen is an expert in community-building, facilitation, and convening. She has a background in peacebuilding, advertising, non-profit management, and in enjoying delicious food. After working in Belfast, Northern Ireland doing peacebuilding work with PeacePlayers International, she went to Brandeis University to attain a Master’s in Coexistence and Conflict. Going to school with practitioners from around the world, she was struck by how their potluck style meals together created a unique space for connection and relationship-building. Ellen decided to start her own project called Dinner & Dialogue after working for several non-profits after school. Using themes to connect food, life, and society, Ellen has created a bridging model that uses the power of eating together, storytelling, and listening to build social bonds, empathy, and community. She is passionate about creating spaces that allow people to see each other’s humanity and build trust. She believes that through interventions such as this we can begin to break down the divisions that exist in our society and increase mutual understanding. More recently, Ellen created Community In Context LLC and facilitates community-building programming for non-profit and corporate communities. She is currently coordinating virtual and in-person programs to create opportunities for people to come together, listen, and learn from each other.
