The festival features 21 storytellers performing spoken word stories in a variety of styles, intended for a mature audience. Better Said Than Done is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Our organization produces storytelling shows throughout Northern Virginia and beyond, featuring experienced and new performers from our community of spoken word storytellers. We also produce the annual Women’s Storytelling Festival, in Fairfax City, VA, each March. With stories ranging in length from 7-70 minutes, the shows are energetic, engaging, and highly entertaining. They may be funny, poignant, silly, or unbelievable, but they will convince audiences that life is better in the telling. Better Said Than Done hosts events locally, online, and can travel to give performances, presentations, and workshops at corporate events, comedy clubs, schools, and anywhere else you would like to hear a story.

He grew up listening to the songs and stories of the trappers and attending many a late night “session” around many a kitchen table. In 1986 he married a Gander girl and subsequently became immersed in Island culture. As a result, he accumulated a store of material which suddenly bubbled to the surface when he and Kim returned to Newfoundland and Labrador in 2005 after 20 years “upalong”. He wrote his first recitation in 2007 and has now written 40. Five of these have been published in handmade chapbooks and his work is available on 2 CDs or through electronic download. His recitations “Ralph:Flying Hound” and “Kimmy and Mike” were recently released as illustrated children's books and his latest work is "Half the lies you tell are not true", a collection of 13 of his funniest recitations. Class size is limited so all students will be given the opportunity to write, share at least one story, and receive critical feedback. Jessica Robinson founded Better Said Than Done in 2011. In addition to performing with Better Said Than Done, and locally in the DC Metro area, Jessica has performed at Exchange Place at the International Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN, appeared on PBS’ “Stories from the Stage,” and in the Women’s Storytelling Festival. She also shared stories on the BonkersBrit, Full Spirals, Orchid Story, and Funny Parents Podcasts. In 2022, Jessica performed with The Story Collider and was a featured teller at the Stone Soup Festival, the Washington Folk Festival, and the Allegheny Highlands Story Festival. In 2023, she was a featured storyteller for the Florida Storytelling Festival and the Hampton Storytelling Festival, and was presented with the ORACLE Award from the National Storytelling Network. Jessica is a teaching artist and presenter who has led workshops, presentations and webinars for The Brookings Institution, The World Bank, Jack Morton International, The Story Center, Story Crossroads, and at several Festivals, Libraries, and Community Centers, as well as for and through Better Said Than Done.
